George
Hickenlooper.
Hailed by Roger Ebert as “One
of the Best Films of 2002!,” THE MAN FROM ELYSIAN FIELDS
is George Hickenlooper’s recently acclaimed feature starring
Andy Garcia, Mick Jagger, James Coburn, Anjelica Huston, Olivia
Williams, Michael DesBarres and Juliana Margulies.
Nominated
for a Golden Globe award, THE BIG BRASS RING is his 1999 critically
acclaimed feature, adapted from an Orson Welles screenplay, starring
William Hurt, Nigel Hawthorne, Miranda Richardson, and Irene Jacob.
Hickenlooper
has also won a directing Emmy for his work on the internationally
acclaimed HEARTS OF DARKNESS: A FILMMAKER’S APOCALYPSE (a
documentary about the making of APOCALYPSE NOW), in addition to
receiving international praise for his dramatic short SOME FOLKS
CALL IT A SLING BLADE, starring Billy Bob Thornton, Molly Ringwald,
and J.T. Walsh (the basis for the Oscar-winning feature SLING BLADE).
Among
Hickenlooper’s other feature work is THE LOW LIFE, a tragic-comedy
starring Kyra Sedgwick, Sean Astin, Rory Cochrane, and Renee Zelwegger;
PERSONS UNKNOWN, an off-beat thriller starring Naomi Watts, Joe
Mantegna, Kelly Lynch and J.T. Walsh; and DOGTOWN, a drama starring
Mary Stuart Masterson, Jon Favreau, and Natasha Gregson Wagner.
Hickenlooper’s films have received numerous awards and have
been shown as official selections at the Cannes, Sundance, Telluride,
New York, London, Locarno, Moscow, Tokyo and Toronto International
film festivals.
Other
films by Hickenlooper include the documentaries PICTURE THIS (about
director Peter Bogdanovich); ART, ACTING, AND THE SUICIDE CHAIR
(about Dennis Hopper); and MONTE HELLMAN: AMERICAN AUTEUR; in addition
to television work for ABC/Disney, CBS, NBC, Fox, and Aaron Spelling.
A 1986 graduate of Yale University, he is also the author of the
book REEL CONVERSATIONS, a collection of interviews with directors
and critics.
Hickenlooper
is getting read to premiere his feature documentary: MAYOR OF THE
SUNSET STRIP, about the history of fame through the eyes of pop
impresario Rodney Bingenheimer and his friends David Bowie, Courtney
Love, Brian Wilson, Cher, and Paul McCartney. The film will make
its world premiere as the centerpiece of the 2003 Los Angeles Film
Festival before being showcased as an official selection of the
2003 Toronto International Film Festival. "Hickenlooper is
currently developing features at Warner Brothers and Columbia Pictures.
Chris P Carter-
*Musician – (1983 – Present)
As a founding member of transplanted East Coast group Dramarama,
I’ve recorded 9 albums since the debut LP Cinema Verite in
1985. My contributions to the band included playing bass guitar,
producing, songwriting, arranging and personally designing all album
artwork/promo materials. Television appearances included Late Night
with David Letterman, The Dennis Miller Show, MTV’s Alternative
Nation & 120 Minutes (guest hosts) and two live performances
on The Joe Franklin Show. In 1992, the LA Music Awards voted Dramarama
“Best Modern Rock Band” and our then current album Vinyl
“Album of The Year”. Between the years 1987 and 1999,
I had the opportunity to record for and/or with members of The Rolling
Stones, New York Dolls, The Replacements, Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers,
Blondie, Love, The Pixies, and Harry Nilsson. In June 1997 I played
bass for Mike Myers (as Austin Powers) on the MTV Movie Awards which
aired in over 10 countries throughout the world.
* Air Personality – (1989 – Present)
Currently host “Breakfast with the Beatles on 97.1 KLSX -
FM in Los Angeles. This long running show can be heard every Sunday
morning from 8AM~12Noon. As of the summer of 2002 it is the highest
rated weekend show in all of Los Angeles. Since hosting this show,
I have had the honor of interviewing Beatles: Paul McCartney, George
Harrison, Ringo Starr and Pete Best. My interview with Paul McCartney
can be scene in Paul’s “Back In The US” film and
DVD. Between January 1999 to February 2001 I hosted the weekly show
“The Chris Carter Mess” on LA’s Channel 103.1.
Prior to that (Aug.1997 through Dec. 1999), I hosted the original
“Chris Carter Mess”, a 4-hour specialty show on Los
Angeles radio station “Modern Rock Y107”.. It was also
aired in the Mid-West on WOXY – FM. Throughout 1996~ 1997,
I hosted “Sony’s Siren Spotlight” interview show,
where I did in depth interviews with hundreds of Sony artists ranging
from Ozzy Osbourne, to Pearl Jam. In 1999 BAM Magazine selected
me as one of “The 100 Most Influential Californians in the
Music Industry”.
*Management (1995 – Present)
I established my own company, QM Management in early 1995. I currently
represent two of LA’s finest acts, Wondermints, and The Negro
Problem (as well as singer Stew’s solo projects). Both groups
have been critically acclaimed in the pages of the LA Times, Musician,
Q, SPIN, and MOJO. Rolling Stone chose Wondermints as one of their
“10 groups to watch out for in 1999”, and Mike Myers
hand picked the Wondermints to write the title track for his film
“Austin Power’s International Man of Mystery”.
The Wondermints are currently Beach Boy Brian Wilson’s backing
band.
*Producer (1983- Present)
In February 2001 I produced and interviewed Beatle George Harrison
for an exclusive promotional CD called “A Conversation w/
George Harrison” for Capitol Records. I’ve produced
scores, songs, and/or incidental music for the following motion
pictures: Nightmare Elm Street IV, Pet Cemetery (title track featuring
Traci Lords), Three Fugitives, In The Army Now, Amongst Friends,
and Higher Learning. Selected television programs have included
music I’ve produced in: Melrose Place, Felicity, Entertainment
Tonight, and ABC’s Wide World of Sports. I have also co-produced
with Don Smith and Grammy award winner Val Graray. I am currently
producing a film with Emmy winning director George Hickenlooper
called “ Mayor of the Sunset Strip”. I am also “Music
Supervisor” on the film’s soundtrack. In 2002 I produced
The Naked Dutch Painter album by LA artist “Stew”, this
album was picked as “Album Of The Year 2002” by Entertainment
Weekly Magazine.
*Writer (1989 – Present)
As a freelance writer I’ve written features and reviews for
the following publications: BAM, Exposure, LA Reader, Yeah Yeah
Yeah, and Music Confidential, where I was Associate Editor (92-94).
I currently have my own web site via the UBL/Artists Direct, where
I write weekly record reviews and commentary. I am also currently
an editor for “Artist Directs/ UBL Alternative News Letter”.
I currently contribute to Creem Magazine, and Beatle Monthly.

*Radio Programmer (1998 ~ Present)
As a freelance radio programmer, I have done “specialty jobs”
for Virgin Radio, United Airlines, KOGO (AM), Artist Direct, Y107,
and KROQ to name a few. This included choosing specific titles for
a wide selection of musical genres including 60’s Hits, classic
70’s album tracks, Alternative 80’s & 90’s,
and of course all Beatles programming.
Tommy Perna
- a native of Paterson, New Jersey
started on the New York stage as a dancer moving on to numerous
national commercials and a short stint on the New York soap “
GUIDING LIGHT”. In the movies, he got his SAG card in PORKY’S
REVENGE going on to appear in several other films such as BIG BRASS
RING with William Hurt, BEAT with Kiefer Sutherland, CRIME &PUNISHMENT
IN SUBURBIA with Ellen Barkin and MAN FROM THE ELYSIAN FIELDS with
Andy Garcia. He also has leading roles in two indy films due out
this year, LAVA LOUNGE and IF.
In television he has done many guest appearances on such shows as,
MARRIED WITH CHILDREN and CHARMED to name a few, starring in Proctor&Gamble’s
Emmy winning Dream Builder series movie of the week, “OUR
FATHER”. As a producer he began in development at VIACOM PRODUCTIONS
for Daniel L. Paulson going on to produce, co-direct, and star in
the internationally acclaimed short, CHANGES OF DISTANCE which screened
and won awards at several international festivals.
MAYOR OF THE SUNSET STRIP is Tommy’s first feature attempt
with his second following shortly with Bull’s Eye Entertainment,
the thriller entitled, HUNTING ICARUS written by Michael Easton
with George Hickenlooper set to direct in 2004, and third, LEAVE
BAD ENOUGH ALONE written by Jason Olson. Perna is represented by
Geoffry Oblath at Armstrong-Hirsch. _
Donald Zuckerman produced
THE MAN FROM ELYSIAN FIELDS, directed by George Hickenlooper. The
film stars Andy Garcia, Mick Jagger, Julianna Margulies, James Coburn,
Olivia Williams and Anjelica Houston. The film premiered at Sundance
in 2002 and is currently in theatrical release by Samuel Goldwyn
Co./Fireworks Pictures.
In
2001, Zuckerman produced SAY NOTHING, directed by Allan Moyle, and
starring William Baldwin and Nastasha Kinski. The film was produced
for HBO.
In
1999, Zuckerman produced BEAT, directed by Gary Walkow, and starring
Courtney Love, Kiefer Sutherland, Norman Reedus and Ron Livingston.
The film is the true story of William Burroughs and his wife, Joan.
It premiered at the Sundance Film Festival in January 2000.
In
1998, Zuckerman produced THICK AS THIEVES, directed by Scott Sanders
and starring Alec Baldwin, Andre Braugher, Michael Jai White and
Rebecca De Mornay. October Films picked the film up for theatrical
release and it premiered at Sundance in January 1999.
In
1998, Zuckerman also produced THE BIG BRASS RING, a political drama
based on an Orson Welles screenplay. The film is directed by George
Hickenlooper and stars William Hurt, Nigel Hawthorne, Miranda Richardson
(she was nominated for a Golden Globe Award) and Irene Jacob. The
film premiered at the Toronto Film Festival in 1999.
Zuckerman
produced George Hickenlooper’s feature film THE LOW LIFE starring
Rory Cochrane, Kyra Sedgwick, Sean Astin and J.T. Walsh. The film
was released theatrically in May of 1996. Completed in September
of 1997 is the feature DOGTOWN, also directed by Hickenlooper, and
starring Mary Stuart Masterson, Jon Favreau, Karen Black, Maureen
McCormick, Rory Cochrane and Natasha Wagner.
Zuckerman
executive produced a feature length animated film for Live Entertainment
entitled THE ADVENTURES OF TOM SAWYER. The film was released direct
to video in the fall of 1997.
In
1995 and 1996 Zuckerman was executive producer and principal in
a series of international live pay-per-view television events entitled
BATTLECADE: EXTREME FIGHTING. He thereafter produced another pay-per-view
show entitled THE CONTENDERS featuring Olympic gold and silver medallist
wrestlers.
Zuckerman
has a long history of creating exciting New York City nightlife
venues including THE RITZ (a 2500 capacity music venue), HEARTBREAK,
SINGALONG and METROPOLIS (a 250 seat restaurant). Zuckerman also
executive produced the “LIVE FROM THE RITZ” series of
television specials for MTV. He managed Columbia Records recording
artist SCANDAL featuring Patty Smyth (gold and platinum albums)
and HENRY TILLMAN, the 1984 Olympic heavyweight boxing gold medallist.
Donald
Zuckerman graduated from the University of Pennsylvania and received
a law degree from the Boston University School of Law. He worked
for four years as a Staff Attorney for the Legal Aid Society Criminal
Defense Division and subsequently maintained a private law practice.
Greg
Little (Producer) previously
produced Dreamland,a documentary that explores the lives and struggles
of compulsive gamblers in Las Vegas. DREAMLAND was acquired and
premiered nationally on PBS' P.O.V. series in 2000. Little also
worked on the development and production of large format IMAX feature
films for Sony New Technologies. Additional documentary work includes
projects in Cuba and Brazil.
Julie
Janata is proud to be
the editor and co-producer of MAYOR OF THE SUNSET STRIP, featured
at the Los Angeles, Toronto and London International Film Festivals.
An editor with over 15 years' experience in feature film post-production,
she edited DREAMLAND, also for Caldera Productions, which was
selected to air on the prestigious "P.O.V." series on
PBS. She cut GETTING TO KNOW YOU, based on interwoven stories
by Joyce Carol Oates, and directed by Lisanne Skyler. Selected
for Dramatic Competition at the Sundance Film Festival, as well
as an opening gala at the Venice Film Festival, it got two
thumbs up from Roger Ebert and Richard Roeper. She was Additional
Editor of the Emmy-nominated A SOLDIERS SWEETHEART for Paramount,
based on a story from Tim OBriens classic novel The
Things They Carried. It screened in American Independent Competition
at the Seattle Film Festival, was selected as a gala presentation
at the Toronto and Montreal International Film Festivals, and
won a Golden Reel Award. She re-cut over 25 feature films in two
years as film doctor for Roger Corman, then edited
his feature BEYOND THE CALL OF DUTY.
As an assistant editor, she honed her storytelling skills while
managing extraordinary technical difficulties on Oscar and Emmy-winning
films around the world. These include the Oscar-winning THE GHOST
AND THE DARKNESS, HEAT, which Martin Scorcese named one
of the ten best films of the 90s, FRENCH KISS, THE
JACKAL, DISCLOSURE, JIMMY HOLLYWOOD, GLEAMING THE CUBE, and SWEET
HEARTS DANCE. She also assistant edited the multiple-Emmy-winning
TV series MOONLIGHTING, and the Oscar-nominated HIGH SCHOOLS and
THE SILENCE. She has been a post-production consultant for Warner
Brothers Feature Films, Video Lab Group South Africa, and Lightworks
US and London headquarters, as well as technical consultant to
numerous productions, including: BAD BOYS, DEVIL IN A BLUE DRESS,
A LITTLE PRINCESS and BATMAN AND ROBIN. In the music world, she
was assistant editor on numerous videos, including those for Tina
Turner, Van Halen, The Pretenders, George Thorogood and Bob Dylan.
Janata double-majored in Film and Psychology at the University
of Michigan, then came to Los Angeles as a Cinematography Fellow
at the American Film Institute
