Inspired by a true story, WAKING NED is a hilarious
new comedy about everyone’s dream-to win the lottery. Set in Southern Ireland in the
tiny coastal village of Tullymore, it is the comic tale of Jackie O'Shea (IAN BANNEN) and
Michael O'Sullivan (DAVID KELLY) and a lottery scam that changes the lives of the
community forever.
When one day Jackie discovers that someone from his own village has won
the Irish Lottery, he suggests to his life-long friend Michael O’Sullivan that they
should track down the winner, befriend them and share in the jackpot. After a series of
false leads they eventually find the winner...
Ned Devine is dead in his bed with the winning ticket in his hand and a
fixed smile on his face. After playing the lotto all his life, he wins, only to die from
the shock of it.
Ned has no family and the ticket will officially go unclaimed, so
Jackie and Michael decide to impersonate Ned and claim the money on his behalf.
Nervous that things are getting out of hand, Michael tries to talk Jackie out of it.
But, when the Lottery representative arrives unexpectedly from Dublin to check the claim,
there's no turning back. Eventually, Jackie and Michael realize that they have to
involve the whole village in the scam if they are to succeed. The events that unfold are
more dramatic than winning the lottery itself…
